GreenPalm: We’ve traded our millionth certificate!

This means that together with GreenPalm members we’ve helped palm oil producers earn more than $9m in premiums for working within the rules of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), and raised $1m for the RSPO’s continuing work.

Best of all, we’ve all helped to make the global palm oil industry a little more sustainable. Step by step, certificate by certificate, we’re making real, valuable changes for the better and helping to tackle the environmental problems linked with palm oil production.

Initially, GreenPalm faced criticism from some journalists and environmentalists who said businesses would not want to take part in a programme that did not involve buying physical sustainable palm oil. But the support of some of the world’s biggest names, from Tesco, M&S and Waitrose to Unilever, Nestle and Cadbury, has proved the cynics wrong. Equally, with more palm oil producers and mills registering each month, it’s clear that GreenPalm is proving its value at both ends of the supply chain.

We’re all thrilled by the news of the millionth certificate, as not only does it come just two years since our first trade, but it also coincides with our visits to major industry shows such as IBIE in Las Vegas, USA, SIAL in Paris, France, and our forthcoming attendance at RT8, the annual gathering of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.
